Gourmet Chocolates & Confections, hand made since 2004

As leaders in the gourmet chocolate industry, Compartés is dedicated to delivering exceptional chocolate flavors and experiences, making us a top choice for those in search of the best chocolate gifts. American chocolate has improved by leaps and bounds, but most domestic makers have yet to attempt the level of aesthetic taken for granted in cities like Paris and Barcelona, where the shop experience is typically fussed over as much as the product. Chocolatier Christine Sull Sarioz comes from a background in the fine and decorative arts; with designer husband Goktug, she has created one of the country's most astonishing boutiques, filled with equally beautiful (and exquisitely packaged) chocolate. Seasonal citrus bars in flavors like Meyer lemon and blood orange are almost too pretty to tear apart. Some of the most elegant chocolate bars in the country right now come from Bryan and Dahlia Graham's relatively modest operation in the rustic Catskill Mountains. From beautifully minimal single-origins (a citrus-tart Madagascar Sambirano) to a series of exceptional dark milks (Peru Marańon, in particular), each bar is as rich and smooth as the last.

Well before the current reinvention trend began, Katrina Markoff was pushing at the boundaries of American chocolate, packing bars full of bacon, sea salt, or chili peppers. Decades later, the offerings from Vosges are imaginative as ever and equally sustainable — the company operates from a Platinum LEED-certified facility in Chicago, and recently planted its first crop of cacao in Belize. Back in 2010, Ben Rasmussen turned his Northern Virginia basement into a chocolate laboratory, transitioning relatively quickly from enthusiast to one of the best bean-to-bar makers in the DMV. Impeccably-sourced two-ingredient bars are the main offering from this diminutive operation, but Rasmussen has lately been tinkering with the notion of a better kind of milk chocolate, with considerable success.

One taste is all you need to understand the difference between pure dark chocolate and your typical American chocolate bar; the first is practically a health food, the other a milky-sweet indulgence. Denise Castronovo, who moved into chocolate-making when the last recession left her with plenty of downtime from her consulting business, is one in a growing group of top-level makers successfully fusing the two ideas, creating a high-cocoa content milk chocolate, known in the industry as dark milk. Castronovo's is made with the finest, sometimes very rare, Latin American cacao. With a selection of over 300 different chocolates—all of them handcrafted in Belgium and flown to this small Brentwood shop—Lady Chocolatt caters, above all else, to the diehard traditional European chocolate aficionado.

Adam Krantz's chile mango, hibiscus caramel, and mesquite-smoked whiskey-infused bonbons practically leap out at you with their sense of place. As Southern Arizona's most accomplished chocolatier, Krantz has proven himself wonderfully versatile, garnering impressive notices for nicely-packaged bars as well, including one from Madagascar's Sambirano Valley, a particularly sought-after source. With a strong focus on cacao grown in Brazil — co-founder Sarah Hartman is Brazilian by birth — this bean-to-bar maker has become a standout in the nation's capital, emphasizing direct trade with their growers and partnering with organizations that work tirelessly to protect and restore the rainforest. Time and again across the country, the story repeated itself, during the last year and counting.

Whether you’re shopping for a gourmet holiday gift (always a delicious Valentine’s Day go-to) or just hoping to score a sweet treat of your own, these L.A. Chocolate shops will be there to facilitate a sweet, dopamine-spiking reprieve from modern life. And, you know, with the future of cacao uncertain amid the worsening climate crisis, an indulgent box of high-quality gourmet chocolate may soon be a rarity, so enjoy cacao-based sweets while you still can.

Gift Sets

Over nearly a quarter century, Michael and Jacky Recchiuti have grown one of the country's finest chocolate shops from farmers market pop-up to renowned producer of some of the most elegant truffles being made this side of the Atlantic. Their Black Box collection — 16 pieces, in delicate flavors like bergamot tea and tarragon grapefruit — is the perfect gift for somebody (very, very) special. Probably this was their go-to chocolate store in Los Angeles, due to their pristine reputation. This shop has been around since 1942, gifting the city with glamorously packaged truffles, marshmallows, caramels, nuts, toffees and chocolates.

Last spring, with the historic Pike Place Market all but silent, this relatively recent arrival was still humming, producing some of the city's best chocolate, something you don't say lightly in a town like Seattle. Erin Andrews started out just over a decade ago, moving into the market's long-awaited extension in 2017; Indi's direct trade, single-origin bars ought to have your attention. Damaris Ronkanen sources sustainably harvested white cacao from Tabasco state — at the heart of a region with roughly 4,000 uninterrupted years of growing experience — for her intriguing 70% Mexico bars. Ronkanen's Mexican drinking chocolate and cacao-infused Cafe de Olla blend were inspired by childhood visits with family in Puebla. The berry-farming Straub family stumbled into chocolate roughly a decade ago, and never found their way out.

Café offerings include coffee drinks, plus a very special iced black sesame hot chocolate, and a chocolate and coffee pairing that includes two bon bons. LetterPress ChocolateDavid and Corey Menkes began making chocolate in their apartment under the cottage industry law. Now their small-batch chocolate company, LetterPress is run from a small Beverlywood storefront (2835 S. Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles 90034) that also serves as its factory, where they literally do it all—from beans-to-bar.

But the biggest pop culture story centers around Lucille Ball, who was inspired to write her famous “I Love Lucy” chocolate factory episode after spotting the conveyor belt in the back room factory (which is still used, along with the original tools and pots). It would be a crime not to stop by the most iconic Los Angeles chocolate shop and discover what traditional, artisanal candy is all about. From a reinvigorated gem to the oldest shop in town, these are the best chocolate stores in L.A. If you forget, warm the butter in the microwave for 7 to 10 seconds, until it’s slightly softened, being careful not to melt it. Here at Compartés, we are constantly innovating with chocolate, pushing the boundaries of culinary art with our expertly crafted seasonal releases, exclusive corporate gifts, and limited-edition collections.

Here, you’ll find dark, milk and white chocolate; classic fillings like praline, chocolate ganache and liqueur; and less conventional Western flavors like cardamom, violet, rose and chili. Customers can build their own ballotin boxes or opt for one of their pre-made assorted boxes—all of them packaged with flair. If you’ve got a bit more time on your hands, Lady Chocolatt’s café also offers decadent cups of hot chocolate and crispy Belgian waffles. While this list focuses rather narrowly on the finest American chocolate bars, because they are something so richly deserving of celebration, there are more high-quality bonbon and truffle makers out there right now than most of us will be able to sample in one lifetime.

A decade and a half later, this fair trade-pioneering company's Mexican-style chocolate discs — 100% organic — are some of the finest around, making for a memorable drinking chocolate experience. I've gotten them for myself and to cheer up a grieving friend and they always make life better. Experience Valerie Confections in-person at our flagship bakery and chocolate shop in Glendale, as well as our cafe, Valerie Echo Park.

From mostly-shuttered market halls to back street workshops, more than a few of America's chocolatiers found themselves busier than ever. Should we be surprised to learn that so many of us found chocolate a comfort, during such a challenging time? Then again, history does repeat itself — after all, it was the Great Depression that gave us so much of the candy we grew up with. An astonishing number of the names we know best today, from Snickers to Three Musketeers to Sugar Babies, came on the market during that time and stayed put. Valerie Confections is not only Los Angeles's premier chocolatier and dessert-maker, it's also recognized as one of the nation's top confectioners. Since 2004, the company has made hand-crafted chocolates, petits fours, cakes, chocolate-covered toffee, preserves, baked goods, and more from only the best all-natural ingredients.

Textures: Using Different Textures to Add Interest and Depth to a Design Medium

texture in interior design

Let's delve into the significance of texture and how it can transform a space's ambiance. Texture in interior design is the tactile and visual quality of surfaces, referring to the way materials feel and look. It evokes emotion, elevates perception, and adds depth, richness, and complexity to a space. Tactile texture, for example, can encourage us to touch and interact with the space, while visual texture can add depth and dimension to a space. Texture can also create contrast and balance in a room, leading our eyes to move around the space and creating a sense of flow. One simple way is by introducing different types of textiles, such as a textured rug or a woven throw.

Pattern Brushes:

Examples of actual texture include stucco walls, hardwood floors, stone countertops, textured wallpapers, etc. Texture can be used to enhance the visual weight of a living room by introducing a mix of textures and finishes to the space. For example, combining rough and smooth textures in the form of materials such as wood, metal, and textiles can create a sense of depth and dimension.

Contemporary American Style: Your Ultimate Interior Design Guide 當代美式風格:您的終極室內設計指南

If we imagine walking into a space, the textures will either help amplify or tone down the room’s emotions. Picture a modern kitchen with glass, marble, polished metals, and smooth, natural stone floor tiles. All of it very soft and finely finished, reflecting tons of light and bringing a calm, cool, collected sense to the area. It adds depth, interest, and emotion to a room, creating a more engaging and enjoyable space.

How to Use Texture in Decor

"I love mixing sleek brass ones with wood options." Arrange them together or scatter them throughout the space to strike the right balance. The guidelines for adding texture are fairly simple, as outlined below, but there is one hard-and-fast rule Thomas urges home decorators to follow."Make sure it makes sense with the design concept," he says. Lance Thomas, principal at Louisiana-based Thomas Guy Interiors, suggests looking at texture in a more physical way. "Texture in interior design is about creating moments that invite touch both in person within the space and through photographs," he says. Here, Thomas and Patton share their top tips for adding texture to your space in a way that's perfectly on-trend and utterly timeless.

So, whether you’re looking to transform your small dining room or your laundry room, keep in mind the impact of color and material choices on the warmth and feel of your space. Materials like wood and leather have better heat retention, keeping your space warmer for longer, while metals lose heat quickly. By understanding the science behind heat retention, we can make more informed decisions when it comes to choosing the right materials for our spaces. Soft-textured surfaces, like a cozy pet bed, can have a calming effect on our furry friends and promote good behavior.

How to Use Texture in Interior Design for Maximum Impact DIY Home Comfort

Instead, use multiple shades from snow white to warm creams, beiges, and light grays. Dress the sofa with throw pillows and blankets in mixed materials such as linen, silk, and wool. Every element of a room—flooring, wall finishes, furnishings, objects, accessories, art, wall panels, and decor—is an opportunity to incorporate texture. You can start with an empty room, juxtaposing materials with different textures—hard, soft, shiny, matte, smooth, rough, etc.—as you build your design step by step. Or you can give existing decor a lift by building on the textures that are already there and adding more layers.

Using texture in interior design – how professionals harness it to add depth and dimension to a room

The difference in form, petal and leaf shape, height, colour and vessel all produce a textural effect on a room’s decoration. While you can reach out and touch plantlife, this is more of an example of visual textile. Every ounce of your room can bring spark a textural discussion, and as they form layers, the result is immersive and arresting. Use Texture with Scale – Scale is another component that you can use with texture.

Check out our other interior design articles in the series for more design inspiration and to learn more about interior design. Slightly adding a different texture here and there can be far more effective than going overboard with too many elements from the outset. A well-crafted design using texture will add depth and interest to any space. Masonry, tile or other smooth surfaces bring extra visual appeal and dimension to any room. With metal art, macramé hangings, and vintage signs in modern, bohemian, and country styles available, it's easy to find pieces that will make your room both aesthetically pleasing and balanced.

This highlights the impact of warmth in our tactile experiences and how they shape our social interactions and relationships. Not only can this improve our mental and physical health, but it can also enhance our productivity and overall happiness. When designing your space, be sure to coordinate your furniture and include comfortable pieces like a reclining sofa or corner chair. Creating a comfortable and nature-inspired environment can improve your negotiating skills and overall flexibility in all areas of life. Our tactile experiences impact our lives in more ways than we might realize. From the way we feel to how our pets behave, the textures we encounter can shape our behavior and thinking.

Additionally, the involvement of both wood, metal, and mirrored furnishings offer an exciting and warm take on transitional décor. Texture and pattern can have a profound impact on our holistic well-being, encompassing the physical, mental, spiritual, and subconscious aspects of our lives. Texture and pattern can be used to create a sense of connection to nature, which can have a profound impact on our spiritual well-being.

A monochromatic room can still be intriguing with the addition of varied textures. Imagine a white room with a shaggy rug, a linen sofa, a glossy side table, and matte wall paint. Even without color, the room is visually interesting due to the diversity of textures. Conscious and compatible conflict is sometimes the key to using texture in interior design. Two materials when you hold them apart separately seem incongruent and incompatible in texture, but combined in the right space surprisingly create dramatic harmony. Often interior design texture is what gives a room a special quality or feeling that visitors can’t quite articulate exactly.

Incorporating patterns and textures through accessories like pillows, curtains, and rugs is an easy way to add interest to a space. They can create a sense of adventure, exoticism, and wildness in a space. They are often used in bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices to add a touch of personality and uniqueness.

Enhancing our tactile experience with houseplants and finding the perfect spot for them can promote a healthier and happier environment for our furry friends and us. Have you ever noticed how something feels can affect how you think and act? Well, it turns out that our sense of touch significantly impacts our lives.

“The design of this bedroom took shape as we pulled together materials and patterns found in art and objects of that time,” says interior designer Jen Samson. Incorporating mirrored metallics, stone, wood, and plenty of plush throws, this room is covering all the texture bases. We're feeling that stone wall around the wood burning fireplace in particular. The modern updates make it feel on-trend instead of outdated, as does painting everything white. When applied with a flat plaster paddle rather than a roller or brush, paint will give your walls some three-dimensional oomph.

If you don't love the industrial look, then add splashes of paint and/or a wallpaper accent. Heather Hilliard designed this California sunroom to feel both like a sitting room and a home office. The occupant works at her desk while her husband naps on the chaise, Hilliard tells us. The Lee Jofa block-printed grasscloth wallcovering is soft enough to inspire both productivity and snoozes and the golden hue accentuates the sunlight further.

Each Compartés box is like a portable and edible art gallery, with every piece of chocolate delicately painted in bright designs. This chocolate store has been around for the last 75 years, and its sweet creations are, almost, too pretty to eat, but that’s part of the thrill. For us, Compartés is an ongoing journey of discovery, continually delivering new tastes and experiences.

How can I stay updated on Compartés news and promotions?

Before very nearly everybody was out there peddling their own single-origin bars, a pioneering Art Pollard was already running away with the idea (and an outsized share of acclaim) out in the chocolate-happy Beehive State. For much of the company's 15-year lifespan, if you have been eating chocolate at the legendary Chez Panisse in Berkeley, chances are it came from Amano. According to the National Confectioners Association, which keeps track of these things, consumption of high-end chocolate in America shot up by double digits since March 2020. Hollywood stories abound—Katherine Hepburn wrote about the chocolate turtle in her autobiography, the Reagans were regular customers, and legend has it that Oprah orders 10-pound heart boxes for employees every year.

The chocolates are layered in such a way that it takes five people to assemble just one piece. Since founding her business in 2009 and opening her shop in 2013, Patricia has sourced her beans from one grower in Tabasco, Mexico and roasts and grinds them in-house. What sets her chocolate apart is the way it is processed—stone ground as the Mayans and Aztecs did over 2,000 years ago.

Rare is the chocolatier that attempts to do absolutely everything completely from scratch; hobbyists-gone-pro Maureen and Jim Elitzak take pride in doing all of the work themselves, from sorting ethically-sourced, single-origin beans to wrapping the often award-winning bars for sale. Their not-to-be-missed (even if you're a major skeptic) white chocolate is made with just three ingredients — house-pressed cocoa butter, whole milk, and organic cane sugar. The educated consumer will look for a lot of things from their chocolate bar these days — transparency in sourcing, fair wages for growers, good ingredients. (Organic cane sugar and cocoa butter, yes, but most everything else, no, unless it's high-quality milk chocolate, which does exist). Above all, is it smooth, rich, and does it taste as great as the price tag might dictate?

Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L V2 Review

peak design 30l everyday backpack

I had a V1 30L Everyday Backpack that I really did use every day for about five years. While packing it for a trip one day, the zipper on one side completely broke. I contacted Peak Design's customer service and sent them photos. They then sent be a V2 bag for free with the color of my choice, no questions asked, and simply told me to recycle my old bag.

Pre-Owned Gear

There are three handles on the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2). The two on the sides are functional, nicely padded, and easy to grab—although if you have a taller water bottle or a tripod on the side, you may not be able to take full advantage of the side handle. The main fabric on the backpack is a 400D double-poly coated, DWR-impregnated nylon canvas.

Award-winning Camera Straps

A lot of people use this backpack for work and not just for cameras. It definitely blends in better than some of the other options out there. Perhaps it is (has become) a US-thing, but the optics are quite different from regular photo-dedicated backpacks (with the exception of some Clik Elite). @Fotosean - I imagine the folks shelling out the money for a bag like this also need one of those huge tripods that cost $400 too... Theft is a huge deal in the photo travel world and I for one would never buy a bag that screams "expensive photo gear" like this one.

Sternum Strap // Backpack (V1 & Travel)

To prevent this, attach the bottom zipper to the lock. That way, you know that when the other zipper is up top, it means the flap is securely closed. I can’t speak to the new version but the side pockets on my PD EDBP are plenty deep for water bottles. Plus there’s a (removeable) strap for extra security. I'm not sure it's worth upgrading from v1 to v2 but I wanted the 30L size for more flexibility and sold the 20L. I tried their protactic a long time ago and found it pretty nice (though I didn't end up keeping it).

This conveniently allows those who have smaller laptops to adjust the size of the pocket to suit their needs, as you’ll no longer have to put up with a laptop that falls to the bottom of the backpack. It’s great that I don’t have to go through two levels of zippers to access some items, but losing the option of having the various sizes is something that I had to get used to. Customise your carry in the Everyday Backpack V2 by rearranging the included FlexFold dividers and utilising the smaller interior side pockets. Peak Design has supplied two different length straps with the Everyday Backpack V2 to help better utilise different size requirements of various load types. Disappointingly though, you may also notice that the hidden waist strap is no longer included tucked away inside the side pockets, and that Peak Design have planned to sell it as a separate product.

We’ve found the Maglatch is best used on the lowest bar—so if you truly have a full 30 liters worth of stuff, you might want to consider a slightly larger bag. This laptop sleeve can be a little tricky to adjust and the velcro tends to get stuck, but once you set it you can pretty much forget it—unless you get a new laptop. We like that the laptop is suspended in the back, protecting it from unexpected drops of the bag. A bungee-like stretchy key leash also comes with the Everyday Backpack 30L (V2). We have to say, we prefer the V1’s material for this key leash—it was a robust seatbelt-like nylon webbing that felt sturdy. The V2 key leash feels a little, well, cheaper and more like an afterthought since it’s not integrated with the bag at all.

Capture (Clip Only)

For most people’s everyday needs, 20L is more than enough. For travel, 30L will let you carry enough gear for a short trip while also fitting in most airline carry-on baggage limits. Found on either side of the bag are large expandable side pockets that tuck away nice and snug when they’re not in use.

Peak Design Everyday Backpack Review (2024 Update)

Whether or not that’s useful is totally up to you, but we like it. You can use those colors to organize your bag, keeping a mental note about what’s in which pocket—whether it’s camera batteries, sunglasses, a power bank, or anything else. And the black and gray looks cleaner than the red and blue stitching in V1. Also, when the MagLatch is attached in the top position, the fabric on the top of the bag can stick out on the sides and potentially allow rain, snow, or sneaky pickpockets inside.

I also have several of the Peak Designs Camera Straps and they’ve been my go to for 5-6 years now. Every body I have has it’s own and I wouldn’t change for anything. A glance at the archives reveals that since the last time a PD bag, the Travel 45, was covered DPR has reviewed packs from Wotancraft, Wandrd and Langley Alpha. I been using lowepro bags and those dvder are much better and also I like the thinktank.

The downside of having a bag this large is that if you use small lenses, they don't fit snuggly. But in that situation, chances are a 30-liter bag is more than you need. This is a bag that feels more at home in the city than in the wilderness, at least aesthetically speaking. It's a bag that I would take into the office if I had one I needed to go to. Patrick Mahomes Talks His 'Homie' Travis Kelce Dating Taylor Swift

"What a time to be a Chiefs fan. Team wins. Kelce and Mahomes are national treasures. Seems unreal since following this team in the 90s," @Phillip_Clyde wrote. Another praised the athletes-turned-comedy duo, "My favorite football duo @PatrickMahomes and @tkelce have charisma for days," they said. The moment was tweeted out by NFL journalist Ari Meirov with the 20-second video having been viewed over 2.1 million times. The video sees Mahomes and Kelce posing with Biden, who is holding up a Kansas City Chiefs jersey with the president's name and the number 46 (he is the 46th U.S. president). After they finish their photo op, Kelce sees his opportunity and wanders over to the unmanned podium.

Just the News in your Inbox

As it turns out, Kelce just wanted to utter some famous presidential words. They kicked up a storm when Travis chugged a beer on the stage before taking his certificate, leading to suggestions that he was not being a good role model. However, Mahomes' interest in copying his teammate's big achievement suggests the opposite.

During the Super Bowl champions' trip to meet President Joe Biden at the White House, Kelce seemingly made a play for the presidential podium, until quarterback Mahomes essentially sacked him to remove him from the mic. Besides his celebratory parade antics, Kelce has flexed his comedic chops as the host of SNL back in early March. Since he wasn't still on set at 30 Rockefeller Center, his time making a "presidential address" was cut short, unlike Kansas City's reign over the NFL with two championships in the last four seasons. The 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, who was selected as one of the 2024 TIME100 Most Influential People, sat down for Complex Sports' "I Got Time Today" game, where athletes respond to posts about themselves on social media. Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce revealed what he planned to say at the White House podium during the team’s visit to Washington D.C. To the dismay of Chiefs and football fans, there was no iconic Kelce moment from the White House microphone, no final diss of the Cincinnati Bengals.

The three-time Super Bowl champion added, "And it does help when your best friend and your homie’s dating the most famous woman in the world," referring to the romance between his teammate Travis Kelce and Swift, both 34. But beyond accolades on the field, it’s Mahomes’ leadership and personality that has created fans worldwide. “Definitely tell you, in the last four or five years, there has definitely been a red take over here with the Kansas City Chiefs in this area,” said Mahomes’ former head coach, and current Whitehouse athletic director, Adam Cook. Kelce is known for his larger-than-life personality and likes to run his mouth at times on the field.

This offseason, Travis returned to University of Cincinnati alongside his brother Jason Kelce for a live episode of their podcast that included a ceremony to finally receive their college diplomas. In October, the NFL stars announced another joint partnership with four-time golf champion Rory McIlroy and Olympic boxing gold medalist Anthony Joshua on a $218 million investment into Formula 1 team, Alpine Racing. Wilson, 28, shared a photo with Mahomes after they taped the interview on social media.

When Biden turned his back to the podium to put the jersey down, Kelce walked to the microphone, according to People. The Chiefs tight end joined his teammates at the White House on Monday at the invitation of President Joe Biden to celebrate their Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles in February. Former Cincinnati Bearcats standout and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce tried to make a few remarks after the team presented President Biden with a Kansas City jersey. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes quickly moved toward the podium and pushed Kelce away from the mic after Kelce said, "So, I've been waiting for this …."

The Kansas City Chiefs were on hand at the White House to honor their Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, and star tight end Travis Kelce had yet another hilarious moment in him when the spotlight was brightest. The Chiefs were at the White House on Monday, and Mahomes and Kelce presented a No. 46 jersey to President Joe Biden, KMBC-TV reported. Mahomes had reprised his role as the straight man in the Chiefs' comedy duo and pulled Kelce away from the microphone mid-sentence. "It's been a long wait to stand before you," Reid said during his speech, referring to the 2020 cancellation.

Several members of the Chiefs organization, as well as notable politicians from Missouri, made the trip to the White House on Monday. Biden led a moment of silence for Norma Hunt, the widow of team founder Lamar Hunt. According to Kansas City station KMBC TV, the team has brought along the Lombardi trophy, as well as a Chiefs jersey with the number 46 to present to the 46th president. According to ESPN, the Pittsburgh Steelers were the first victors to visit the president when they met President Jimmy Carter in February 1980, though Ronald Reagan is credited with making the event a regular occurrence in the late 80s. Unsurprisingly, many of the comments on Twitter were tinged with political sentiment, with some suggesting he was about to profess his love for "Brandon" and others saying he'd give a better speech than Biden.

Kelce posed with Mahomes and President Joe Biden holding a Chiefs jersey bearing the president's name and the number 46, referencing Biden's place in the list of American commanders-in-chief. Instead, President Biden and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid were the only ones to speak during the ceremony, with Biden going first. The Eagles and Chiefs are both among the favorites to win the Super Bowl next season, meaning the first lady may have her shot yet at welcoming her favorite team to the White House. The Kansas City Chiefs missed a White House visit after winning the Super Bowl in 2020.

After the duo posed for a photo on stage with President Biden with a Chiefs no. 46 jersey, Kelce – dressed in a red suit and black shirt — walked over to the podium with the Presidential seal and began addressing the crowd. The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs made their visit to the White House on Monday and the team’s star tight end and quarterback appeared to have some fun during their second trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the past three years. The team’s tight end during both Super Bowl runs, Kelce told his brother Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast he was excited to visit the White House for the first time on Monday. With childlike wonder, Kelce joked with his brother that he wanted to “see the hidden Oval Office” during the team’s visit and referred to discovering tucked away secrets from the plot of Nic Cage’s National Treasure. Some temporary chaos ensued when Biden, the 46th president of the United States, took pictures with Kelce and Super Bowl LVII MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes while holding a customized Chiefs jersey with his name and number 46 on it.

Even a visit to the White House served as the superstar tight end's playground for some good-natured humor. Here are some of the most memorable sights, sounds and moments from the reigning champs' trip to Washington. With that, the Chiefs' first visit to the White House — their planned visit in 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic — went off without a hitch. If the Chiefs win another Super Bowl with Kelce in tow, however, they may want to make sure there's more security to keep him from the podium.

"So, I've been waiting for this –," the Chiefs tight end casually began before Mahomes rushed over and escorted him away from behind the president’s podium.“Sorry! ” Mahomes said, waving his hand to apologize as the whole team began laughing behind them.

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce tried to pull a fast one during his team's visit to The White House as Super Bowl champions on Monday. Sensing an opportunity while President Joe Biden's back was turned, Kelce snuck his way towards the White House microphone in the hopes of making a speech. Only, teammate and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, always two steps ahead, prevented Kelce from doing so in a comical clip that has since gone viral. After the photo, the president, 80, turned his back to the podium to lay the jersey down and Kelce scooted over to the microphone. After the team gifted Biden a personalized No. 46 jersey during a ceremony on the White House south lawn, Kelce took his shot. As Biden chatted with MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes and fixed his eyes toward the Lombardi Trophy sitting stage right, Kelce slipped away to center stage to speak at the presidential podium.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Monday prevented tight end Travis Kelce from speaking to reporters during the team's visit to the White House.

"So I've been waiting for this—" Kelce begins, only for Mahomes to move him out of the way, preventing his teammate from making an impromptu speech. "I'm sorry. Sorry," Mahomes says as he ushers Kelce away and back to the rest of their teammates. The moment got the journalists and the rest of the team laughing at the light-hearted exchange. Kelce is no stranger to the stage having hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live earlier in 2023. Patrick Mahomes had to intercept his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce as he tried to make a speech on the White House lawn.

He commended the Chiefs on "dominating the league" this season and persevering when analysts doubted them. Whether it's his chart topping New Heights podcast or his fairytale romance with Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's life outside of football is the stuff of envy. Look no further than his Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Patrick Mahomes, who admitted that he secretly wishes he could replicate Kelce's most significant achievement.

Reid spoke at the celebration on Monday, thanking the White House for excellent hospitality and (repeatedly) praising the food during the visit. The head coach thanked the organization's staff, coaches, and players for "a phenomenal job" this season, and Chiefs fans for their support of the team. The president spoke highly of the Chiefs for "working together as a team" and striving to "bring out the best in each other" in their championship season. He compared the "power of sports" to the "power of this country," in its ability to "remind us who we are as Americans." Despite winning the Super Bowl three times in their history, the visit marked the first time that the franchise met with a sitting president and toured the White House. And the tradition had not yet been in place when the Chiefs won the Vince Lombardi trophy in 1970.

However, Mahomes quickly moved to remove his top target from the podium since people who aren't President of the United States should not use the seal for their own personal use. As reported by the US Sun, the goal is to establish the steakhouse as Missouri’s “the place to be” before venturing around the globe. They are already a match made in Heaven on their spectacular 7 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, and now, for the people of Missouri, it's the second act for the pair as they turn their attention to the catering trade in their home state. "He makes every single person feel like they're the most important person in the world. He has that natural gift to really embrace and show love to everybody," Mahomes said of Kelce.

Kelce could only say, "So, I've been waiting for this ..." before Mahomes stepped in and pulled him back to join the rest of the team. Everyone treated the situation with humor, including Mahomes, who sheepishly apologized as he and his tight end stepped away from the podium. The Chiefs tight end — who can be as dangerous in front of a mic as he is catching passes — could be heard saying, "Stay right there though" as he attempted to sneak his way to the White House podium. President Joe Biden was, at the time, placing a customized Kansas City jersey on a nearby table. After Mahomes called an audible to move Kelce out of earshot on Monday, Biden, Chiefs President Mark Donovan and Reid spoke at the ceremony, KMBC reported.

No Presidential Immunity for Personal Crimes Dressed in 'Official' Clothing

With the benefit of hindsight, Kelce said he probably should have just launched right into what he wanted to say. Kelce wasted valuable time and allowed Mahomes to pull him away from the podium before getting his moment in the sun. "It's iconic, and how he usually addresses the nation is, 'To my fellow Americans.' That's all I wanted to say, dude."

In 2022, Mahomes told PEOPLE that Kelce is "just the life of the party," in an interview about their close friendship. Described as the "ultimate experiential dining destination,” the new restaurant will be located in the Loews Kansas City Hotel. The athletes partnered with Global hospitality group, Noble 33, to bring 1587 Prime to life. Beyond the upcoming NFL season, when the Chiefs will defend their back-to-back NFL titles, Mahomes and Kelce are hard at work on opening their steakhouse, 1587 Prime, in early 2025. “Even though he had a lot of weight on his shoulders, pressure on his shoulders, football season, basketball season, baseball season, he was a guy for everybody,” said Brown. “That’s just one of the things about it you know, we’ve seen it before now the whole country is getting a chance to see it,” said former teammate Marcus Brown.

The two NFL stars presented a Chiefs jersey to President Biden during the visit. Of course, Kelce is never afraid to say something into a microphone or camera lens. His "You gotta fight for your right to party!" line while celebrating the Chiefs' AFC Championship victory three years ago before winning Super Bowl LIV has become a rallying cry for the rabid fan base in the Midwest. Mahomes was quick to whisk Kelce away from the microphones, and everyone on stage and in the crowd started laughing after the quarterback apologized for his favorite target's want to speak.

Design Process in Architecture: From Concept to Completion

architectural design process

Out of all the design phases, the bidding phase is rather simple – the goal is to find a construction company to build the project. You will again become a service provider and guide your client in finding the best construction company based on their qualifications and price. Before the formal architectural design process starts, the first step in the architectural design process is the pre-design phase. The most crucial parts of the pre-design step are programming and site analysis. The seven steps are pre-design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, construction administration, and close out. That typically includes a series of sketches, physical models, and initial renderings or set of drawings of the building.

Fee Breakdown by Design Phases

There is very little room for revision once a project starts its construction process and next to none once completed. As a result, having a set of architectural design phases helps organize its management, and coherently communicate its design intent. The design development process begins with the revision of the schematic design chosen by you based on the requested changes. The cost estimate for the project is also updated to incorporate the changes made to the initial design.

Post Construction Tasks & Project Close-Out

A more thoroughly developed exterior, interior, and spatial layouts are expected by the end of this phase. At this particular phase of the architectural design process, the clients usually feel the project slowly becoming a reality and picture themselves in the new space. With all of the drawings in hand, the architect and client may begin looking for qualified contractors to provide preliminary cost estimates, which is one of the primary objectives of the following steps. According to the American Institute of Architects, the five phases of architectural design include schematic design, design development, contract documents, bidding, contract administration. While some architectural designers might have their process, most others follow this set structure.

Design Phase

Our software is your central hub for all construction project drawings and documentation. The collaborative platform connects everyone on the project team and gives them access to all files whether they’re in the office, on the construction site or anywhere else. The fifth phase begins with the completion of the project documentation and selection of the construction contractor. Since the construction work is well underway, the client needs to ensure that the building is being constructed per the design specifications. Construction administration, like the name suggests, involves the architectural designer providing construction oversight.

We'll discuss the overall goals of each of the five phases of the design process in architecture. The phase, the scope that the architectural design team is responsible for, and the deliverables that move the project forward. The next phase of the architectural design process is the design development phase. Architectural Fee Breakdown will vary on project specific needs and project type. If a client requests multiple design options, a physical model, and 3D renderings, for example, the Schematic Phase may be a bit higher than normal. Different architecture firms may propose a different fee breakdown on the architectural design phases.

The Architecture Design Process 101: Everything You Need To Know

In times of disagreement, you may have to compromise over these details with the client. First, it is important to identify the projects requirements as the client for example may have constraints such as a tight budget or limited time to complete the desired outcome. Here we must develop an initial design brief to define the project, analyse its characteristics and identify its objectives.

Depending on the project, this phase can take several years until the building’s construction is completed. This is necessary to safeguard architects, builders, and property owners from possibly dangerous mistakes in construction. Additionally, the project’s construction cannot legally begin without securing the permits first. The Issue for construction set contains all of the details and dimensions to communicate the design to the builder throughout the construction process. At which stage a structural engineer is engaged to join the design team, where they can help with project estimates and how different designs can be constructed.

architectural design process

Concurrent Construction Tasks

The construction set has the details and dimensions of the design for the builder to use throughout the process. An extension of the schematic design phase, the design development phase takes the designs and results of the first phase a step further. Building a property from scratch is a long, complicated process, one that involves numerous stakeholders and multiple tools and resources. The architectural design process is further broken down into phases to help organize the project better and create more manageable steps for the contractors to follow. The design and creation of a building can be a long and complex process. In this article, we will discuss the 5 phases of architectural design and how to implement them for maximum success.

architectural design process

Phase 1: Schematic Design

Let’s discuss this one by one to get a clear understanding of each stage. Some clients enjoy this part of the process, while others get quickly overwhelmed by the number of decisions. The right visualization tool can make this process easier and add to the excitement. Identify and list the proposed uses of the structure to help you determine what needs to go into the design. The client needs to articulate the project scope of work as much as possible.

They also need a clear understanding of their needs and whether the project is realistic. This phase also calls attention to any specific design elements the client wants to include. The architect cannot proceed unless they have a clear understanding of the building’s purpose (i.e., manufacturing, healthcare, office buildings).

While the phases outlined above provide a general picture of a typical architectural design process, not every project will follow these five steps precisely. Or perhaps you're new to the profession or just curious about what architects do? Here's brief guide to help you understand the who, what, and how of the architectural design process.

In this phase of the architectural process, the design is malleable, allowing you to make changes and explore ideas. As you progress through the design process, making changes becomes difficult, time-consuming, and costly. Your architect will engage everyday building occupants, learn about their needs, and gain an understanding of your operations and culture. The aim is to walk away with high-level goals to steer future design decisions. The architectural process begins long before your architect sits at the (figurative) drafting table.

There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline for how long the design process can take. It all depends on what you’re building, where you’re building it, and how long it takes to secure building permits. Having a team of pros with a broad range of skills makes it easier to get through the architectural design process. Because this is when architects draft the blueprints and construction drawings that go to those erecting your building. The architect will also submit these construction documents with permit applications.

Like U.S.-based mobile phone service, credit card service can be equally limited on the island. Restrictions on U.S. credit cards have been lifted but banks and merchants are still working out what’s needed to support them. There are two main currencies in Cuba  — the Cuban Peso (used by locals) and Cuban Convertible Peso (used by tourists).

Swap cold nights for warm days with a Caribbean cocktail of dreams.

Reaction to the news began to trickle in slowly by Tuesday morning, as cruise lines begin the process of seeing whether cruises to Cuba could, once again, emerge as a viable -- and unique -- itinerary in the broader Caribbean region. Insight Cuba has operated people-to-people land tours in Cuba before, and the sailings are natural extensions of the program. You will find your favorite Caribbean cruise ports no matter what direction you go.

To enter Cuba, American citizens need to meet certain standards for at least one of the 12 categories of travel approved by the U.S. Royal Caribbean will take care of providing each guest with a Cuban visa. The cost of a visa is $75 per person, and will be processed by the cruise line and will be waiting for you when you board the ship. You just need to sign an affidavit certifying participation in one of the ship’s excursions or ensure that you qualify for another category. Both Azamara ships comply with people-to-people regulations through for-fee shore excursions.

PERFECT DAY AT COCOCAY

Or for the ultimate splurge starting March 2017 (and running through May 2017), opt to set out by 10-passenger private yacht for the ultimate in intimate and pampered Cuba exploration. On board the plush vessel, you'll have the dedicated services of three crew members, plus a local Cuban guide, as well as a dinghy for shore excursions and deck with grill and bar. The vessel must be fully chartered—for a whopping $74,000. It all starts with the boldest cruise ships at sea — and ours have won awards for everything from world class dining and spectacular entertainment, to record-setting onboard thrills and groundbreaking innovation. Currently, the only thing stopping a U.S. mainstream cruise line from visiting Cuba is the country itself; there are no U.S. government regulations forbidding cruise ships from going, thanks to measures taken by the Obama administration. Although the Trump administration is tightening up individual travel, Cuba continues to approve cruise line sailings throughout 2018 and into 2019.

Cuba Cruise Port Highlights

But what's certain is that with the country's proximity to dozens of existing cruise operators based out of Florida and within the Caribbean, once the go-ahead is given, the Cuba cruising options will be available by the boatload. Sorry, we currently do not have any sailings to this destination. Although it has become much easier to cruise to Cuba, thanks to a thawing of relations in the Obama administration,  individual U.S. citizens still have to follow some procedures, although the cruise lines have made it much easier.

Royal Caribbean offers regular cruise sailings to the island of Cuba, where guests can enjoy the Cuban culture, history and cuisine that has been a signature of the country for centuries. Storied architecture — there really is nowhere in the world quite like Cuba. Thomson only sells cruises in the U.K., so it's unlikely that U.S. passengers will be on the cruise. The company says that Americans can come if they can procure their own visas, but the nature of the sailing is not ideal for a people-to-people tour, preventing most U.S. citizens from hopping onboard. Memory making starts here — with a full lineup of 2024, 2025 and 2026 future cruises ready to book. This is the biggest, boldest vacation on land or at sea.

Take a break from the daily grind and slip into vacation mode with unbeatable deals on 2-3 night cruises that fit more fun into just a few days. Prices shown are per person based on two adults sharing a twin cabin and include all cruise offer discounts and savings. From the dazzling shores of Varadero to the untouched beauty of Cayo Coco, cruise Cuba to discover variety of beach havens.

American cruise ships, which began visiting the Caribbean's largest island in 2016, keep adding more and more sailings, as regulations fall away. Cruise lines with a longer-running stake in the Caribbean nation are continuing to develop new and more immersive itineraries in Cuba, due to interest. Happily, sailing options in Cuba opened up to Americans recently, via a special “people-to-people” program aimed at promoting cultural and educational exchanges. Beginning with the new Armonia sailings from Miami, Cuba will be open to Americans onboard MSC Cruises, following people-to-people requirements. On MSC Opera the company offers a wide range of shore excursions, including beach days and snorkeling without people-to-people requirements.

And learn some Danzón steps from a local during one of the city’s many colorful carnivals. Royal Caribbean brought back Empress of the Seas into the fleet specifically to offer cruises to Cuba. Empress of the Seas offers cruises  to Cuba from Miami, Florida on a refurbished 1,602 passenger vessel. "Our cruising experience in Cuba was amazing for our guests and crew members alike," a Carnival Corporation spokesperson told Cruise Critic. "Cuba is a bucket list destination that builds additional excitement and enthusiasm around cruising in the Caribbean." "We also did (a) CCL cruise to Havana right before it was shut down again," said pe4all.
